Fatal airplane crash mars 20th anniversary air show at Langley Field, Virginia.

People gather to watch air show commemorating 20th anniversary of Langley field, Virginia. Long line of P-12s parked with engines running on the air base ready for flight. Crew members rush towards the planes. Y1B-17 bombers, from 2nd Bombardment Group, move slowly along taxi strip toward the runway. One of the B-17B takes off. Nine B-17Bs in flight in echelon formation. PT-6 lays a smoke screen. P3-2As and PB-2As, of the 8th Pursuit Group, fly low over the field. Suddenly, one PB-2A dives and crashes into the ground, and burns. Smoke arises from the crashed plane. (Major Alfred J. Waller is killed in the crash and his observer, Sergeant John Johnston is injured.)

People gather for an air show celebrating the 20th anniversary of Langley field, Virginia. B-18s parked on runway. Spectators stand in front of Administration building. Several Consolidated PB-2A airplanes of the 8th Pursuit Group are seen in the air. A flight of Y1B-17 bombers, from the 2nd Bombardment Group, flying low over the crowd. Several PB-2As are also flying low, when one of them suddenly dives towards the ground and crashes in front of the spectators. The pilot, Major Alfred J. Waller, is killed and the observer Sergeant John Johnston is injured. The Crashed aircraft aflame and smoke rising. Crash truck responds. People rush towards the plane.

10th Annual Aircraft Engineering Research Conference at Langley field in Virginia

About 300 aviation industry executives, engineers, and government officials, pose for a photograph, May 22, 1935, on stands set up in front of a full scale wind tunnel at the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory, at Langley field, Virginia. They are gathered for the 10th Annual Aircraft Engineering Research Conference, sponsored by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). Among the notable members and officers of that Committee, seen in the gathering, is Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh. Scene shifts to the flightline at Langley Field, where three women walk in front of several parked executives' aircraft, including a Lockheed Vega airplane. Scene shifts back to the Aeronautical laboratory, where a Department of Commerce light airplane is seen mounted for aerodynamic tests at the wind tunnel. Conference attendees line a steel walkway to observe the full-scale wind tunnel in operation. Airflows can be seen in the process. Attendees gather behind a protective screen to observe propeller testing, in the Propeller research tunnel. Attendees (including Lindbergh) are seen walking about, and conversing, outside the Lab. Next, Colonel Lindbergh is seen climbing into a Lockheed Vega airplane and then in closeup through window of cockpit. He taxis out for takeoff.
