Fleet Carrier Air Group 86 (CVG-86) embarked on the USS Wasp (CV-18) at end of World War 2. A pilot of Squadron VF-86, sits in an F6F with engine running, on flight deck of the Wasp. He runs the engine a while, then shuts it down, and climbs down from the aircraft. Another pilot greets him and they both walk across the deck together. An F4U, Corsair (Number 154) of Fighting Bombing Squadron 86 (VBF-86) takes off, followed by another (number 155). Next, a TBM-3E Avenger (number 301) of VT-86, takes off, followed by numbers 303, and 314. An SB2C-4 Helldiver (number 210) is the next to take off. View aft, shows sailors working around an F6F; a tug driving along the flight deck; and a destroyer (looks like Fletcher-class) underway in far background.

U.S. Navy Grumman TBF Avenger torpedo bomber flying close to the water in a convoy of U.S. warships, during World War II

Opening scene shows Navy TBF Avenger in slow flight with nose-high attitude, flying so close to the water that it is kicking up spray in its wake. The camera follows the course of the plane, as it passes a U.S. Independence class light aircraft carrier (CVL) in camouflage, underway in the same direction. Next, the aircraft passes an Iowa class battleship, also in camouflage paint. Next, it passes an Essex class carrier (CV) that has an aircraft taking off from its forward deck. The TBF catches up to another Iowa class battleship, and passes between the camera ship and the battleship, climbing slightly, but still very low over the water. A Portland class cruiser is seen in the background. The TBF begins to climb as it overtakes a Fletcher class destroyer in catapult configuration.
