U.S. Army Transcontinental Motor Convoy crosses Mississippi River on the Lyons-Fulton Bridge from Illinois to Iowa

The 1919 Motor Transport Corps convoy en route from Washington, D.C., to San Francisco, California. The Convoy of U.S. Army trucks is seen moving slowly, over the Lyons-Fulton Bridge across the Mississippi River at Clinton, Iowa. While crossing the bridge, the convoy is led by an open car displaying an American flag, followed by a bicyclist. Pedestrians walk along side walkway crossing the bridge in the opposite direction. Mayor James Walker congratulates Charles Lindbergh on behalf of the City of New York

Aviator Charles Lindbergh returns after his trans-Atlantic flight from New York to Paris. Tug boats are jammed together next to the Department of Docks Building on Pier A, Hudson River, New York City. The clocktower, added to the Building in 1919, as America's first WWI memorial, is clearly visible.American flags and bunting everywhere. A small launch, carrying Lindbergh, makes its way, between tug boats and large ferry boats and throws a line to a larger passenger-filled boat nearby. In a precarious maneuver, persons in both boats help Lindbergh into the larger boat. He almost falls into the water, in the process. Lindbergh is wearing a leather flying jacket. At the Battery,policemen on foot, and on horseback and motorcycles restrain crowds. Lindbergh climbs into an open car, and the parade, in his honor commences. New Yorkers watch and cheer. Lindbergh's motorcade proceeds to lower Broadway. A ticker-tape parade in his honor. People on either side of the streets cheer and welcome Lindbergh. Motorcycle and mounted police escort him further to City Hall. Policemen control the crowd. City Hall: Officials welcome the aviator. A banner reads 'Welcome Lindbergh'. Lindbergh with various officials and officers on stage. He addresses the crowd. NY Mayor James Walker greets and congratulates Lindbergh.

Lieutenant General Ira Eaker talks about his transfer to the Philippines during an interview in the United States.

An interview of United States Air Force Lieutenant General Ira Eaker conducted by Dr. Maurer in the United States. General Eaker talks about his most interesting experience when he was transferred to the Philippines in 1919. He talks about his work at Rockwell Field. The Commander was Colonel Henry Arnold and executive officer was Major Carl Andrew Spaatz. He was among a few regular officers. Colonel Arnold selects one officer to recruit a squadron for the Philippines. Arnold and Spaatz asked his recommendation for the purpose. Then he recruited 60 people and took them to the Philippines. They prepared their aircraft. He says that while flying back from Manila Bay, he was not able to control his airplane because of the clouds and other problems. Then he with other officer started to work out on a system where they could fly in the clouds. They flew with some instruments to prevent any accidents due to the clouds.
