U.S. receives a train of gifts in New York City from France (showing their appreciation for relief goods sent by the Americans following World War 2). French freighter Magellan, with "Merci America" painted on her sides, arrives at New York Harbor. It carries a train of 49 French railroad box cars filled with tens of thousands of gifts of gratitude sent by the people of France. Government officials greet each other. A railroad box car is lowered on the dock area from the ship. A sign on the box car : 'Homme 40, Chevaux (enlong) 8'.
