Memorial monument to José de San Martín is dedicated in Washington, DC

Argentine Ambassador Honorio Pueyrredón speaks into four microphones, at the dedication of a memorial to General and independence leader, José de San Martín, located in Judiciary Square, Washington, DC. (It was moved to Triangle Park, at Virginia Avenue and 20th Street, in 1976.) This is a duplicate of the original located at the Plaza San Martin, in Buenos Aires. It is a gift to the United States from Argentina. View of the flag-draped equestrian statue, as it is uncovered displaying the flags of Argentina and the United States and numerous doves flying skywards. View of the memorial base, as an aide climbs steps and presents the Ambassador with an object that he places into an opening in the base. Six B-17 Flying Fortresses in flight from Washington,DC, United States to Buenos Aires, Argentina. One is seen above snow-capped mountain. The American goodwill squadron brings a message of peace from the U.S. President. They are feted by the Argentines. A parade with Argentine soldiers on motorbikes and the U.S. B-17s flying overhead. Honor guard of Argentine soldiers stand on the street, as U.S. Ambassador and American and Argentine dignitaries ride in an open carriage. Scene shifts to the return of the B-17s as they are greeted on Langley Air Field, Virginia.
