March 25, 1937, Amelia Earhart arrives aboard the Matson Liner, Malolo at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro from Honolulu

Amelia Earhart stands alongside Fred Noonan aboard the Matson Lines cruise ship Malolo at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro on March 25, 1937. She has arrived from Hawaii after her crash at Pearl Harbor's Luke Field. Newsreel cameraman boarded the ship at the Los Angeles harbor entrance to film Earhart's landing. Earhart is seen on deck with her navigator, Fred Noonan. Paul Mantz, her technical advisor holds a cigar. As the party leave the ship, Amelia's husband, George Putnam wearing the hat, is briefly seen following Earhart down the gangplank carrying her bags. Trailing behind Putnam are Fred Noonan, and Paul Mantz. On the dock, Earhart speaks to reporters. To her immediate left is Harry Manning, her radio operator, to her far left is Fred Noonan. To Earhart's right is Paul Mantz.

Teledyne Ryan BQM-34F Firebee drone being recovered by means of the Midair Recovery System (MARS) at Edwards Air Force Base in California, United States. Aerial view of a U.S. Air Force CH-3E in flight towing the Firebee after snagging it in the air. The Firebee is suspended far below the helicopter by a cable, and is seen trailing a striped drogue chute. It is gradually cranked closer, by means of an internally installed hydraulic winch system, until it appears to be within 20 feet of the CH-3 helicopter.

"Stratogyro," intended for flight to planet Mars, fails to fly at all during attempt in Hollywood, California

Pilot, "Doctor" Valentine Newbauer, and an assistant loading cargo aboard his failed flying contraption "Stratogyro," intended to fly to outer space and the planet Mars. Pilot Newbauer wears heavy flying suit and rubber boots. Assistant helps him don a metal helmet. He shows his special gloves. Pilot enters the plane, tests his controls and cranks a starter. Engine starts and large rotors begin to rotate. The entire ornithopter-helicopter machine vibrates, but does not move. Pilot shuts it down and steps out, removing his helmet and smiling. Assistants tow the machine back toward a shed. Repeat views of rotors turning; pilot testing controls; and cargo being loaded aboard.
