The USS Argonaut (SS-166) returning to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, after the famous Makin Raid in World War 2. Aboard are marines from the Second Raider Battalion (Carlson's Raiders). It has also just returned from the Makin Raid and is already tied up, on the opposite side of the dock. Sailors on the Argonaut, and on the pier, secure the lines and set up a gangway to the boat. A Naval officer comes aboard. Next, Admiral Chester Nimitz, and staff officers, are seen walking away from the Argonaut, after having formally greeted members of the crew and the Marine Raiders. Many sailors mingle on the pier. Marines of the 2nd Raider Battalion begin to walk away from the Argonaut, past the honor guard. View from a height, of honor guard in large formation, saluting.
