Launches of several U.S. Warships during World War II
Preparations for launch of the USS Hancock (CV-19) at Fore River Shipyard, Quincy, Massachusetts, on January 24, 1944. . Shipyard riggers removing supports from under the ship's hull. Crowd gathered around the bow as the Missouri goes down the ways. Another change of scene to the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company of Newport News, Virginia. Here the ways are emptied following the launch of the Light Cruiser, USS Hancock (CL-81) on June 19, 1943. The Hancock can be seen in the water. Tugs attend to the newly launched Cruiser.

McNutt, U.S. High Commissioner of the Philippines, who read President Truman's proclamation of Philippine Independence to the assembly. Camera pans over the gathering which includes many U.S. Service personnel in uniform. The oath of office is administered to the elected President of the Philippines, Manuel Roxas. At the conclusion, the American flag is lowered by Paul McNutt, as President Roxas raises that of the Republic of the Philippines. A celebratory parade in Manila includes a float with signs reading: "Let's Produce and Rebuild," among other things. Other floats represent "Mountain Province," and "The City of Manila," "The University of the Philippines," and "The Division of City Schools." One float, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, contains a huge replica machine gear, and models of an aircraft and a ship. It's message is about turning the gear that helps make the nation great. American and Filipino soldiers march, carrying their respective national flags. A white-helmeted military band plays for the marchers. Final scene shows large loose formation of military aircraft in flight very high above the Independence Grandstand, at Rizal Park.

The promise of independence for Indonesia is broadcast throughout the city of Jakarta, following a ceremony at Istana Gambir, or the Gambir Palace (Merdeka Palace, Jawa Timur Jawa, Jawa Timur 65455, Indonesia). Indonesian leader Sukarno, head of the Japanese-created Poesat Tenaga Rakjat (POETERA - Concentration of People's Power) emerges from a car, climbs steps, and enters the Gambir Palace, presently known as Merdeka Palace. He stands together with other Indonesian officials. Imperial Japanese Army Lieutenant General Kumakichi Harada addresses the gathering and delivers news of Japanese Prime Minister Koiso's September 7, 1944 promise of future independence for Indonesia (the so-called Koiso Declaration).
