Olympic skaters perform at Rockefeller Center ice rink in New York.

The U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team show their skating skills at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, New York City. Olympic pair skaters, Yvonne Sherman and Robert Swenning, of the New York Figure Skating Club, demonstrate a pair lift and side-by-side spirals. Spectators watch them performing. Richard Button of the Philadelphia Skating Club and Humane Society performs 2 axels, and a flying camel spin into a back sit spin, changing into a forward scratch spin. (These are shown in slow motion to better show his movements.) New Yorker Eileen Seigh performs 4 split jumps, 3 axels and a forward sit spin into a final scratch spin. (Note: Eileen and Dick trained with Gus Lussi in Lake Placid. The pairs team, Yvonne Sherman and Robert Swenning were pupils of Pierre Brunet, a former French National champion, who , with his wife Andree, were World pair champions ).

14th annual Barrel-Jumping competition, on ice, at Grossinger's Resort in the Catskill Mountains of New York State

Skaters are seen circling the ice rink to gain speed, at Grossinger's Catskill Resort, in the Catskill Mountains, at Liberty, New York. They then attempt to leap over lines of barrels set on the ice, during the 14 annual barrel jumping competition. Contestants are seen clearing successively more barrels as they are added to the starting number of 11. Scene shifts to officials setting up a 16th barrel. Several fail to clear the 16 barrels, which is finally accomplished, again, by last year's winner, Ken Lebel of Lake Placid, New York. He is seen receiving the trophy from Mary Ann Mobley, television and screen personality, and former Miss America (1959).

In the fifth inning, Yankees' Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio hits a home run to left field, scoring himself and fellow Hall of Famer Yogi Berra, who jumps excitedly as he runs around the bases. Fans cheer as Yankees greet DiMaggio in dugout. Yankees win game, 6-2, and would go on to win the series, four games to two.
