Opening scene shows African American congregation in church, during World War 2, listening to their preacher speak about liberty. Closeup of the Minister speaking. As he refers to the seed of Liberty taking root in Boston, a plaque on the gate of the Granary Burial Ground of 1660 is shown reading: "Within this ground are buried the victims of the Boston Massacre, March 5, 1770." The gate swings open revealing the cemetery. Next, an illustration of British Redcoats shooting into a crowd on that occasion is shown. Closeup of the illustration shows an African American, named Crispus Attucks, falling as the first victim of the gunfire. A monument to him on Boston Common, is then shown. Closeup of the monument. Excerpt from a film about the Revolutionary War shows reenactment of the battle off Concord. The 221-foot granite obelisk at Bunker Hill, Boston, is seen, marking the site of the first major battle of the American Revolutionary War. A musket is seen with a sign attached reading: "Gun belonged to Peter Salem, a colored man who carried it at Lexington, Concord, and Bunker Hill, and with it shot Maj. Pitcairn." The boys walk past many children. They are making not of buildings with inadequate fire escapes. Scene suddenly shifts to a boy standing on a bridge overlooking railroad tracks. He is annotating a map or buildings along Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. Next, the student is seen presenting information about this matter and engaging in a discussion about it with classmates. Later, a student spokesman is seen presenting findings about housing inadaquacies to an assembly of people. Local people demonstrate in the streets, carrying banners decrying current conditions. Scene shifts to new housing projects with playgrounds and seemingly better conditions for the residents. Children are seen running in Central Park. A woman (teacher) with children on a ferry boat looking at the skyline of lower Manhattan. (World War II period).

Harry S. Truman, president of Old Trails Association, is honored at site of Madonna of the Trail statue in Lexington, Missouri.

Dignitaries and people gather at the NSDAR Memorial to the Pioneer Mothers of the Covered Wagon Days in Lexington, Missouri. The memorial (one of 12 identical ones) was established by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and created by sculptor August Leimbach. Harry S. Truman, then Missouri's director for the Federal Re-Employment program (part of the Civil Works Administration), and President of the Old Trails Association, speaks to Mrs. John Trigg Moss, Chairman of the National Old Trails Committee. Mrs. Moss, in 1927, had designed the memorial that was sculpted by Leimbach, and dedicated in 1928. View of "Madonna of the Trail" inscribed on the main statue. Harry S. Truman, who later in 1934 was elected Senator of Missouri, holds up two miniature bookend models of the statue, which are being given to him as a gift for serving as President of the Old Trails Association. (Truman had also delivered the keynote address at the statue unveiling 6 years earlier).
