Three California police officers search shacks for indigents. The police officers stand outside one of the huts and a man emerges from it. Officers walk inside to inspect the ramshackle hut. They walk up to another hut. A group of men comes out of the hut and the officers look inside. The police officers escort group of indigents along a railroad track. Old people come out of another ramshackle hut.
A freight train moves on a railway track. Trainmen are seen on top of the box cars, and one on the caboose, who waves a flag. Police officers inspect vehicles on a nearby road in California. A sign reads 'California Inspection Station, Department of Agriculture'. California police officer speaks to car drivers and inspects vehicles before they drive past. Occasionally, the officer directs a car to pull off the road. A sign reads 'Stop State Officers'.
A ceremony aboard the Light Cruiser, formerly the USS Philadelphia ( CL-41) in the Philadelphia Navy Yard, Pennsylvania. A Brazilian official arrives at the Navy yard, by car and reviews an honor guard. U.S. and Brazilian sailors and officers in dress white uniforms stand at attention as the Official is welcomed aboard the ship. The deck is crowded with American and Brazilian Navy personnel and guests. Various protocols are followed and speeches given to effect the turnover and recommissioning of the ship, as the Brazilian Barroso (C-11). A Brazilian sailor hoists the Brazilian flag on the ship while a photographer takes pictures. A number of views of the Brazilian ship's company, including officers and crewmen. Brazilian Marines stand with rifles. U.S and Brazilian Naval officers socialize on the deck of the (now) Barroso.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower standing by the presidential aircraft, at Augusta Regional Airport, Augusta Georgia. With him are his wife, Mamie, daughter-in-law, Barbara Jean, and grandchildren David (age 6), Barbara Anne (age 5) and Susan (age 2). At the Augusta National Golf Club: The Eisenhowers look over tables containing many silver prizes, including a silver tea set. President Eisenhower speaks with children attending the festivities. He dons a Tam O' Shanter cap. He and Mamie proceed to a car. On the way, Mrs. Eisenhower drops something and people nearby reach to retrieve it for her. The Eisenhowers continue to their car.
A long table is set with Netherlands Coat of Arms displayed on drapes behind. Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands is escorted to the table and meets Hollywood mogul Samuel Goldwyn. As she stands behind the table, a succession of Hollywood actors come up to greet her. The setting is a studio stage with smaller round tables set up for other guests. After the dinner, the Princess mingles with Actresses Hedy Lamarr and June Allyson, and speaks with actor Lionel Barrymore (confined to wheel chair ). She is then escorted to a working stage where she converses with actors in costume and observes how movies are made.
