World's Champion Horseshoe pitcher, Ted Allen, demonstrates skills, after his win in Moline, Illinois

Approximately 20 contestants, dressed in white, are seen at horseshoe pitching lanes in a fenced enclosure. Spectators are seated in bleachers nearby. A stray dog wanders in the foreground. View of the spectators (mostly men). View of a shoe landing as a ringer. View from the pins as a contestant throws five shoes at four pins. One shoe appears to have landed closed against the first pin. The remaining four are all ringers. In a complete change of scene, Ted Allen, wearing a sweater emblazoned with his name and title: "World's Champion," gives a demonstration. He throws four ringers at one pin, while an intrepid assistant leans over, with his hand atop the pin, confident that he won't be hit by one of the horseshoes. Final view is a closeup of Ted Allen posing with his face framed by a horseshoe. (Note: Ted Allen was born in Kansas. His family moved to Colorado in 1922; to Oregon in 1932; to California in 1933; and finally back to Colorado, in 1936.)

Graham McNamee announces game 3 of Cubs vs. Tigers 1935 Baseball World Series

Newsreel clip on game 3 of the 1935 World Series at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Famed baseball announcer Graham McNamee seen sitting at microphone, recreating some of his broadcast. Cubs outfielder Frank Demaree (#6) hits home run in the third inning. Cubs' Augie Galan gets hit in fifth inning to drive in Billy Jurges. Galan slides into second when throw goes to home. In sixth inning, the Tigers' Pete Fox hits a triple to drive in Goose Goslin. In eighth inning, Tigers Goslin and Billy Rogell get hits to drive in three runs and tie the game. McNamee does voice-overs for all the plays, with loud crowd noise in background. When game ends, police stand at the edges of the infield to prevent spectators from walking across it. McNamee announces the final score of 6-5 Tigers, in 11 innings.

U.S. President Franklin D Roosevelt warns of an increasing danger of armed conflict. Roosevelt's motorcade on the streets of Chicago. A large crowd gathered to get a glimpse of the President. Confetti rained on the motorcade. Soldiers salute as the motorcade passes by. Policemen on motorbikes lead the motorcade. People gathered at the venue to hear the President's speech. A board advertises candy bars 'Baby Ruth, Butterfinger" in the background. President Roosevelt with officials on stage. He addresses the crowd. Excerpts from his speech are interspersed with scenes of war and conflict elsewhere in the world during the late 1930's. Roosevelt talks about peace, unjustified interference into affairs of other nations, aerial bombings, naval attacks, and war. Scenes of war carnage during the Second Italo-Ethiopian War of 1935-1936: Ethiopian soldiers on horseback cross a bridge, Italian forces fire artillery from a hill, aerial view as aircraft drop bombs. Italian soldiers pass a burning, smoldering building and overtake an Ethiopian position, with many Ethiopian soldiers lying dead. Ethiopian citizens in area of a war torn village. Bomb damage and war casualties on the street. Italian soldiers collect dead bodies and load them onto a truck. A ship quickly sinking after attack by a submarine. Scenes from battle during the Spanish Civil War in 1936 or 1937. Spanish nationalist and rebel soldiers engage in a battle in a village. Spanish prisoners are marched. Nationalist soldier fires machine gun from a balcony emplacement. Dead body on a road. Soldiers behind a barricade fire at opposition and carry wounded on stretchers. President Roosevelt concludes his speech with, "America hates war. America hopes for peace. Therefore, America actively engages in the search for peace." People applaud.

Blind Senator Thomas D. Schall of Minnesota fires a revolver at a target in Berwyn Heights, Maryland. He is guided by the sound of a wand tapped on the bulls-eye by his youngest son Richard. (Note: This newsreel was released December 23, 1935. Senator Schall was killed by a hit and run driver on December 19, 1935 while he was walking across the Baltimore-Washington Parkway within days of this footage being shot, earlier in December 1935 ).
