DiMaggio (with photographers positioned just a few feet away) hits it into left field for a single. DiMaggio slightly tips his cap at first base, gets pat on the back from first base coach. DiMaggio later comes around to score on another Yankee hit, is welcomed by teammates as he enters the dugout. DiMaggio poses for cameras in clubhouse after the game, a 7-5 Yankees victory. (Note: DiMaggio hitting streak would reach 56 games, which remains a record as of this writing, more than 70 years later.)

Aquatennial boat parade marks the opening of water sports in Minneapolis. Floats based on various themes on parade in the streets of Minneapolis. Young women on floats wave at crowd. Floats about the Northern Railways and U.S. Defense are followed by a giant fish shaped float that rolls by, followed by a float made to look like a paddle wheel steam ship called "Showboat". Thousands of spectators gather and celebrate.
People of Wilmington Ohio including hundreds of children collect scrap aluminum metal for the War cause during ration effort for World War 2. Small boy throws metal cup toward three Boy Scouts in truck loaded with scrap metal. Scrap metal deposited under banner saying "ALUMINUM FOR DEFENSE".
