Description of North American Air Defense system components and operation
Actor Raymond Massey talks about the nation's need for defense against possible air attack. He walks to a large wall map depicting North America and discusses joint efforts of Canada and the United States to establish an effective air defense system for North America. On the map, lines of radar stations are shown: The DEW line;Mid Canada line; and the Pine Tree line. Other radar installations are highlighted along East and West coasts on land, on towers in the ocean, on picket ships and on picket aircraft. Sites of the SAGE (Semi-Automatic Ground Environment) network of radars, computer systems, and aircraft command and control equipment are depicted on the U.S. part of the map. The headquarters of NORAD (North American Air Defense Command) at Colorado Springs, Colorado is highlighted. Massey points to models of intercepter missiles and long range bombers, on his desk, and discusses their employment. He then speaks of an intricate communications system to tie everything together. Korean film depicts German Chancellor Adolf Hitler's plan of world conquest and shows montage of German military action scenes from World War II
After lenthy period of slates in Korean, the first images appear at TC: 01:52, as camera pans down over ruins at the front of the German chancellery in Berlin, Germany. A plaque in German identifies it as the Kanzlei des Führers der NSDAP (Chancellery of the Führer of the Nazi Party). Camera moves through various rooms of the building showing wreckage. In one room a world globe, a table and some broken furniture are shown. Scene changes to an animated map of Europe centered on Germany that depicts the dramatic expansion of German conquest in beginning of World War 2. It then shows further expansion with German invasion of the Soviet Union. From then on It adds a line directed to India (labeled in Russian) and another pointed into North America.The map then sends more lines covering the Continent of Africa and the South and Central America. President Franklin D. Roosevelt speaks at the dedication of Techwood Homes (Techwood was a slum clearance project to build twenty-three brick and concrete buildings to house 604 families and 308 Georgia Tech students. It also included forty-two concrete buildings with 677 apartments at Atlanta University) at Georgia Tech University. The President is seen delivering his dedication speech, entitled, “The Meaning of Progress," at Grant Field on the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta, Georgia, before an audience of 50,000 people. He remembers the day, eleven years ago, in 1924, when he first came to Warm Springs, Georgia. He speaks about those days of so-called prosperity in America, when speculators profited and there was a "fool’s paradise” before "the crash", and the citizens were left "holding the bag." He reflects on the disaster and gloom from 1929 to March 3,1933, and reminds the audience of his administration’s subsequent actions to re-open closed banks and establish insurance for bank depositors. He speaks of the efforts of Government to find gainful employment for people out of work.

U.S. forces plan airbase construction after the battle of Saipan during World War II
America forces begin preparing Saipan as an advance base in the Pacific campaign against Japan in World War 2. Japanese military prisoners as well as civilian women and children are seated on the ground, shaded by a tree on a coastal plain in Saipan. American officers review a map laid out on the hood of a jeep. They converse in a group as they stand near a rudimentary small gauge railroad track in the sand. Sheer cliffs are close behind them and the ocean is nearby. A jeep is seen parked and another moves along a bumpy path. Officers and soldiers stand on and near the small gauge rail line. Several jeeps are parked. Camera pans over sheer cliffs behind. (Some contain openings that housed Japanese fortifications.) Camera pans over wide flat area where the Japanese were building an airfield near Marpi Point on the northern end of the island of Saipan. Construction materials cover the area and several jeeps travel through it. Final scene shows more Japanese civilians in a group where several American soldiers are attending to their needs.
