Opening scene shows a German Air Force Technical Sergeant student pilot manning a mobile ground control station at an airfield. He is in communication with an ME-262 aircraft, next seen taxiing, from a parking place, onto a ramp for takeoff. The Technical Sergeant at the mobile control looks through binoculars, as the jet plane passes various other aircraft getting into position for takeoff. A woman soldier, near a shack on the field, raises a flag to signal the jet to take off. It applies power and heads down the runway. View from the side of the jet breaking ground on takeoff, and landing gear beginning to retract. View inside cockpit as pilot manipulates engine controls. Glimpse of his feet on rudder pedals. Closeup from side as the jet is airborne with gear retracted. Student controller watching airplane's progress with binoculars. A U.S. Army truck full of troops and a jeep follow the personnel carrier. Next dragon's teeth tank traps are seen in the snow. A U.S. M10 tank destroyer and a truck are parked near the dragon's teeth. A gunner atop the M10 fires his M2 Browning heavy machine gun. The M10 continues to move past the dragon's teeth. Joseph Goebbels is finishing remarks, to the effect that we can still have a life, during a gathering of Nazi party officials, in a room somberly decorated as if commemorating a funeral (possibly that of Paul von Hindenburg, in 1934). Small pictures of Hindenburg and Hitler flank a large imposing painting of Hindenburg, over a mantle. All gathered join Goebbels in saluting and repeating "Heil" three times. Next, Adolf Hitler is seen, speaking and haranguing audiences in several different venues and circumstances. Politician Hitler, in civilian clothes, having been appointed Chancellor, stands with German President Paul von Hindenburg and Vice-Chancellor, Franz von Papen, in 1933.
