Ellsworth Vines defeats George Lott in National Title tennis match at Forest Hills, New York.

Nineteen year old, Henry Ellsworth Vines, of Pasadena California and opponent George Lott, Jr., of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, battle for 1931 National Tennis Championship at Forest Hills, New York on September 12, 1931, in the 51st U.S. Men's Singles Tennis championship match. They are seen entering the stadium before a capacity crowd, and shaking hands before the match. Views of several strokes and exchanges during the match. At the end, both players meet at the net,shake hands, and walk off the court together. Vines beats Lott (79 63 97 75). Vines poses with trophy.

Bandleader Aviator Roger Wolf Kahn, makes daring low altitude pickup of mail in Norfolk, Virginia.

Bandleader-Aviator, Roger Wolfe Kahn, son of multimillionaire banker, Otto Kahn, sits in a 1930 Bellanca CH-400 Skyrocket airplane. He taxis and takes off, flying from New York to Norfolk Virginia, where he makes a daring low altitude test of system for in-flight pickup of mail. He swoops to within a few yards of the pickup point, and snags a mail satchel suspended atop a building only 102 feet high, The mail pouch is delivered by air drop in a field, where it is picked up by a man who places it in a car and drives away. (Note: This actual airplane, Bellanca NC 7084, is being restored by its owner, Dan Cullman of Kent, Washington.)

Sir Hubert and Lady Wilkins are interviewed upon arrival in the U.S. aboard the German Zeppelin Hindenburg

Australian explorer, Sir Hubert Wilkins, and his wife, Suzanne (Bennet) Wilkins, arriving at Lakehurst, New Jersey, aboard the Zeppelin Hindenburg (LZ-129). They are interviewed about their impressions. Sir Hubert talks about enjoying this trip just as much as they enjoyed travel on the "old Graf Zeppelin." But he notes the accommodations and comfort aboard the "New Hindenburg" were even better. Lady Wilkins also praised the Hindenburg airship. She tells about a storm that had no effect on the ship or passengers, noting that nobody suffered motion sickness. (Their remarks are repeated in successive takes.)
