Richard asks the President about his reaction both personal and political regarding the credibility with the American people as well as his reaction on the discovery that the tapes for White House Counsel John Dean and U.S. Attorney General John Mitchell did not exist. The President responds that he was disappointed. He states that the missing of such tapes gives the impression of things being covered up by the President or his staff members. He states that he would have been been more disappointed in case the tapes which were considered more important would have been missing. He briefly talks about the tapes of September 15th, March 13th and 21st. He states that even though those two missing tapes are not been considered as an essential part of the investigation by the Urban Committee, but he is still disappointed.

The journalist asks the President about his plans to tell the American people about the case with regard to his credibility on this matter. The President briefly talks about new special prosecutor Leon Jaworski. He has not talked to him regarding the Watergate issue. He states that Leon cannot be removed easily. He says that Leon is educated, independent and cannot be removed easily unless the democratic leaders of the Congress agree that he should be removed. He states that when Assistant Attorney General Henry E. Petersen was removed from his position the case was almost 90% ready. After 6 months the case could not be brought to any conclusion under the special prosecutor. It is time for the case to be brought to a conclusion because the reputation of suspected men which has been damaged in the hearings could not be recovered.

He believes that when thee Watergate proceedings are complete, they will safely come out, but unfortunately the people have already personally convicted the persons involved.
