Unveiling Ceremony of the world's fastest jet at Palmdale airport in California. A demonstration of F-104 Starfighter. People at airport. Fly-by runway to the left of F-104A Starfighter at the Lockheed Palmdale Plant. F-104A Starfighter taxis and takes off. People on runway watch the aircraft fly. F-104A in flight. F-104A along with a chase plane. F-104A leaves the chase plane. F-104A in flight low over runway and makes a vertical climb out of frame. The aircraft lands on runway. A man checks the speed. A drogue parachute is deployed after touch down. Newsreel men lined up along the runway
A U.S. Air force F-100C Supersabre jet rounds out in nose-high attitude, during attempted emergency landing at Edwards Air Force Base, California. The pilot applies full power, attempting go around, but the aircraft continues in the same uncontrollable condition (known as a "Sabre Dance"). The aircraft yaws to the right and its right wing lowers, striking the runway and causing it to crash in a ball of fire. (Note:The aircraft was being flown by Lieutenant Barty Brooks, of the 1708th Ferrying Wing, Kelly Air Force Base, Texas. He was to ferry it from Palmdale, California. When he experienced inflight difficulties. He attempted an emergency landing at Edwards Air Force Base, where cameras were set up for different purposes, but caught this event on film.)
A U.S. Air force F-100 Supersabre jet rounds out high in nose-high attitude, during attempted emergency landing at Edwards Air Force Base, California. The pilot applies power to go around without success as the F-100 enters a state known as a "Sabre Dance". The aircraft's right wing strikes the runway and it crashes on the runway in a ball of fire. (Note: This F-100 was being ferried from Palmdale, California, when it encountered problems, and the pilot elected to make an emegency landing at Edwards AFB)
Fatal accident at Air Force flight test center at the Edwards Air Force Base in California, United States. An F-100 Super Sabre jet fighter aircraft being flown from Palmdale California, by Lieutenant Barty Brooks, of the 1708th Ferrying Wing, is attempting an emergency landing at Edwards, after being unable to retract his landing gear. He rounds out high in a nose up attitude during final phase of approach, and decides to take it around to avoid a crash landing. He applies full power but it is not enough to allow him to reestablish normal controlled flight. Instead the aircraft staggers along, under full power and nose high attitude (so-called "sabre Dance").It appears to gain a few feet in altitude, but ends up falling off and striking its right wind on the ground and crashing in a huge fireball.
A U.S. Air Force F-100 jet fighter aircraft, piloted by Lieutenant Barty R. Brooks, of the 1708th Ferrying Wing, trying to go-around, from failed landing attempt at Edwards Air Force Base, California. He had taken off from Palmdale, California, was unable to retract his landing gear, and was attempting an emergency landing at Edwards AFB. The aircraft hovers over the runway in a nose high attitude under full power (so-called "Sabre Dance"), but fails to fully recover controlled flight, eventually striking its right wing on the ground and crashing in a fireball.
United States Air Force Lockheed F-104 Starfighter supersonic interceptor aircraft in Palmdale, California. Air craft at an airstrip. Pilot in pressure suit climbs in the cockpit and closes canopy. F-104 takes off. Three aircraft in flight.
