Task Force 8, on Mission Number VI, the first U.S. offensive naval action of World War 2,against Japanese forces in the Pacific, conducted during January and February, 1942. This film was taken from the heavy cruiser, USS Northhampton, CA-26, of the Task Force en route to attack Japanese positions in the Marshall Islands of Wotje, Taroa and Maloelap. It begins with close-in portside view of the aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise, Admiral Halsey's Flagship, underway, followed by a distant starboard view of the Enterprise. The USS Enterprise, CV-6, is seen preparing to launch air strikes. From time 00:27 to 00:43 the Enterprise's starboard side is shown with the heavy cruiser USS Salt Lake City, CA-25, in the background. Aircraft are launched and SBD Dauntless dive-bombers are forming up over the fleet in several flights of three aircraft.each. The port side of heavy destroyer USS Balch, DD-363, is shown. The starboard side of destroyer USS Dunlap, DD-384, is shown in heavy sea wave swells. Bomber formations fly overhead and a flight of three F4F Wildcat fighters joins in. A TBD Devastator torpedo bomber flies over a Craven Class destroyer as more aircraft form up overhead.

Prime Minister Gandhi, at the microphone, explains that the elephant is a symbol of strength, of hard work, and in India, of good fortune, or good luck. Kirpa Swami brings Mari across the grass, accompanied by elephant handlers, Gwen Yoshimura and Larry Zolton. As Mari swings her trunk, Mrs. Gandhi says, "she is saluting you all." Scene shifts to the airport, where the Prime Minister's Air India passenger airplane is parked on the runway tarmac, displaying an American flag in the pilot's window. Prime Minister Gandhi speaks at the steps to the aircraft, extending the good wishes of the people of India to the people of the United States. She turns and waves from the top of the steps.

Americans celebrate the news of victory over Germany and prepare for continued war against Japan in World War II. Spirited Boeing employees celebrate news of victory over Germany in Seattle, Washington. They wheel out a giant B-29 bomber from an aircraft production hangar with a "On To Tokyo" sign on its side. The Boeing workers stand in a group and wave and cheer. The shining dome of the nation's capitol commands the most attention in Washington DC. All the lights ate turned on in Times Square in New York City and it blazes glory. People of the whole world get crazy with dancing, singing and parties in the streets and celebration drinks on V-E day (Victory in Europe). A man with a pretend Hitler mustache is hoisted in the air. The torch of the Statue of Liberty is lighted in New York.
