Pilot attempting tethered flight in a one-place stripped prototype of the P-V2 helicopter Men stand by side of the helicopter as the pilot sits in the framework cockpit. They maintain hold on the landing gear of the helicopter as the pilot experiments with the controls and familiarizes himself with the helicopter's response. A long tethering rope snakes out along the ground near the helicopter. The pilot succeeds in hovering the craft a foot or two above the ground.

XR-1 hovers as cars and trucks remain parked in the background. Several scenes in which the the helicopter lightly touches down and then takes off again.
