A U.S. Air Force C-74 Globemaster cargo aircraft at Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio. Flight engineer's Instrument panel in the C-74 aircraft with view of cockpit to the left, with double bubble windows. Flight engineer opens hatch in floor of cargo compartment and crawls through superstructure of aircraft to perform maintance. C-74 takes off, retracting landing gear as it climbs out. Several views of C-74 in flight, including one accompanied by another aircraft, and one in which it is operating on only two engines, with engines number 3 and 4 shutdown and feathered. C-74, descending for landing, with landing gear extended. It touches down quite long on the runway and appears to employ reverse thrust on its engines during ground roll.

First flight of Convair XB-36 in Fort Worth, Texas

First flight of Convair XB-36, on August 8, 1946, piloted by Chief test pilot Beryl Erickson and copilot Gus Green. Air and ground crews doing extensive inspections and preflight checks of the XB-36 parked on ramp. Two of the team standing on horizontal stabilizer examining the vertical stabilizer. Tail number 213570 clearly painted on vertical stabilizer. Two Air Force personnel standing next to one of the huge single main gear tires. Engines are started and XB-36 taxis toward runway. It spins around on active runway towards direction of takeoff, and commences takeoff roll, gradually breaking ground in a shallow climb angle.

It displays a 5-star general's insignia on its bumper.A military policeman salutes as an Army officer opens the rear door and exchanges salutes with retired General Dwight D. Eisenhower, who is now dressed in civilian clothes. (Eisenhower is the President of Columbia University, in New York, at this time. He is here to meet with U.S. Secretary of War, James Vincent Forrestal.) Closeup of Eisenhower as he walks toward and up the Pentagon steps, accosted by photographers along the way. He pauses as he goes up the steps to allow the picture taking. At the top of the steps, he removes his overcoat. More closeups as he reaches the top step and enters the building. Scene shifts to closeup of photographers, including an Army one, taking pictures.
