Next, it is seen at some distance from the U.S. submarine, USS Trumpetfish (SS-425), as it moves away from the I-401. The Trumpetfish (unseen) fires two torpedoes, in succession, as it proceeds. The first strikes the I-401 just aft of the conning tower. A little later, the second strikes amidships. The I-401 is seen sinking, stern first.

Alice Davis, daughter of U.S. Secretary of War, Dwight F. Davis, together with Mr. John H. Holliday, his civilian aide, step from a launch bringing them from the USS Pennslyvania, to a dock at Honolulu, Hawaii. They are greeted by two Army officers and a Naval officer. An Army band plays on the dock, in the background. They are joined by Secretary Davis. In change of scene, the camera pans across the parade ground of Fort Shafter, where troops of the 64th Coast Artillery Regiment(AA) are seen marching in formation. Secretary Davis stands with Army officers reviewing the troops. Next, Secretary Davis is seen on steps of the U.S. Army tripler General Hospital, following a visit there. He is accompanied to his car. Scene shifts to the quarters of Major General Fox conner, Commander of the U.S. Army Hawaiian Department. The staff car carrying Secretary Davis drives into Honolulu, where offices of Goodyear International, and Royal Hawaiian Sales Company, Ltd. are seen along the street. The car parks, and Davis's military aide, 1st Lieutenant Lester J. Maitland, opens the door for a rear admiral, and Secretary Davis, who step from the car. Davis is dressed formally in top hat. (Slate indicates they are visiting opening ceremonies for the new Army and Navy YMCA in Honolulu.)

Sesquicentennial celebration of Captain Cook's discovery of Hawaii: (1778-1928) held in the Hawaiian Islands, August 15 to 21, 1928. Monmouth-class British armored cruiser underway en route to Hawaii. Royal Hawaiian flag draped on tripod of submerged tablet, marking the site of Cook's demise. (The inscription reads: "Near this spot Captain James Cook, R.N., was killed, Feb. 14, 1779.") Smoke seen rising from naval guns on the British cruiser, in Kealakekua Bay, off coast of Hawaii, firing 21-gun salute. Camera pans over to the battleship, USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) also firing her guns in salute. A group of British buglers plays "The Last Post," during the ceremony. U.S. Secretary of War, Dwight F. Davis and Territorial Governor of Hawaii, Wallace R. Farrington, step into a Hawaiian outrigger canoe for a short trip across the bay. Next they are seen stepping from the canoe, to a Navy launch tied at the dock in Napoopoo, and thence to the dock, itself. Change of scene shows Secretary Davis and Governor Farrington, with many other dinner guests at a traditional Hawaiian Luau meal with many foods. There Secretary Davis is also seen delivering remarks to the gathering.
