Then a solution of a non corrosive substance is applied. After it evaporates, the vehicle is washed with soap and water and is left to dry. The vehicle is then covered with a layer of oil. Machine guns and artillery are cleaned in the same way. Clothes and rags used for cleaning are then burned or buried. The land is covered with chlorinate lime. Men shuffle their shoes in the lime mixture. They then remove their shoes and clothes with the help of each other. The clothes are spread in air. They remove their socks and underwear and wash themselves in a stream. Then they wear fresh uniforms.

The hearing is called to order by Senator Daniel K. Inouye, Chairman ot the Senate Select Committee On Secret Military Assistance to Iran. Congressman Bill McCollum raises an issue regarding the relationship of the Joint Committee viz-a-viz standing committees of Congress that are interested in pursuing their own investigations. He asks Congressman Lee H. Hamilton, Chairman of the House Select Committee to Investigate Covert Arms Transactions with Iran, whether the Joint Committee needs to approve those related standing commttee activities. Chairman Hamilton expresses the opinion that standing committees do not require such approval. Mr. McCollum argues, however, citing House Resolution 12. Chairman Hamilton agrees to discuss it further with him, but urges the Joint Committee to proceed with its hearing.
Senator Daniel K. Inouye announces that the presiding officer of the Joint Committee speaks for both Senate and House Select Committees. He then swears Lt. Col. Oliver North in as a witness. Mr. Brendan Sullivan, Legal Counsel for U.S. Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North makes several requests, argues about procedures and makes objections, that are over-ruled by Chairman Inouye.
