Opening scene shows Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt being applauded as she takes her place at a speakers table during a forum discussion of the Women's Centennial Congress, at the Hotel Commodore in New York City. The woman introducing her states, among other things, "No one knows women in the United States better than she," and introduces her as the First Lady of the land, who will preside over our Round Table. Mrs. Roosevelt rises and speaks, emphasizing the goal of bringing about a civilized and peaceful world. She then begins to introduce delegates to the Round Table. Scene shifts to one woman speaking at the table where four others are also seated.
Crowds fill streets celebrating Armistice ending World War 1. Street cars move through the crowds. Many people wave American flags. Mounted police maintain order. Crowd filling space in front of S.S. Kresge Company 5&10 cents Store. Large American flags hang from front of the Central Savings Bank, at 14th Street and 4th Avenue (Union Square). People gather around a large monument displaying many figures. A group of people realize they are being photographed and face the camera smiling. One man lifts up a small boy dressed in soldier uniform, holding a flag and saluting. Several men carry a wood slab with effigy of defeated Hun on it. Scene shifts to large open area, where crowd is gathered around a multistory copy of the Statue of Liberty. A group of women in white dresses (possibly nurses) stand in front of a seated Army brass band. Scene shifts back to Union Square, again with crowd around the large monument and American flags draped over windows of the Central Savings Bank. Trick photography creates ethereal image of statue of liberty in the scene. Next, lines of people with banners and flags move near area of trolley cars. Another group gathers near camera, as mounted policeman moves behind them. Trinity Church steeple can be seen in far background. Several men in blackface makeup carry a coffin containing detritus of war. View from building overlooking avenue filled with people. American flags fly from building window sills. A film shows how voice travels over phones, and dramatizes the transmission of a telephone call from San Francisco to Plymouth, England. Functions of telephone system components, including generators, towers, transformers, technicians at circuits, wire lines and the aerial systems at Rocky Point in New York, Cupar in Scotland and Houlton in Maine. Shows switchboard activity at the London Trunk Exchange. Workers, mostly women telephone switchboard workers, answering and routing calls in telephone exchange.

Los Alamos Atomic Energy Commission Scientific Laboratory in New Mexico and mountains in the background. Scientists work with diagrams of nuclear reactors. Different equipment and nuclear rocket designs. Prototype of Nuclear reactor is made. Technicians work with KIWI experimental reactors. Towers and buildings in desert. KIWI reactor is checked in nuclear assembly. Reactor is taken to the testing area on a special rail car. Man works at a remote station to control the car. Liquid hydrogen is pumped into the reactor on rail car from near by storage tanks. Reactor tested on test stand shows flaming torch. Reactor transported for disassembly and inspection on car by remote control. Men use remote control manipulators for inspection. Exhaust gas from other reactor on test stand. Men work on diagrams. Narrator discusses next step as the NERVA program (Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Applications), a combined government and private industry (Aerojet and Westinghouse) effort headed by the Space Nuclear Propulsion Office (SNPO).
