Prospective NASA Project Mercury astronaut, Harold W Christian undergoes Harvard step and tilt table test at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Doctor checks subject's pulse and blood pressure. Harold Christian, wearing Converse All Stars high top shoes, steps 20 inches to a platform once every two seconds. After some minutes, when cued by the medical staff watching, he stops stepping and immediately lies on a backward inclined table (for 25 minutes to measure ability of the heart to compensate for body in an unusual position for an extended time). Medical personnel monitor his vital signs as he is on the inclined table.
