Deck crew of USS Spiegel Grove (LSD-32) move a U.S. Marine Corps UH 34D helicopter to takeoff position on the deck. They plug in auxiliary power and unfold helicopter tail and main rotor blades. Engine starts and rotors turn. Signal Officer uses paddles to direct chock removal and the helicopter takes off. These operation are in support of NASA Mercury-Atlas 7 space mission.
