Japanese-American Army engineers of 442nd Regimental Combat Team in training at Camp Shelby, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, United States. They travel in amphibious jeeps and regular jeeps over sandy terrain in woods. At a river, a reconnaissance team enters the water in an amphibious jeep to study the river conditions and find a suitable anchor point on the opposite shore. They return, report to their Commander, and then rush to work on the bridge. Engineers work on stakes and ropes at near shore while a team in a rubber boat goes to the anchor point across the river. Engineers assemble sections of the pontoon bridge and float them in place across the river. They then pick up their rifles and run across the new bridge to take up battle positions on the other side. Their leader reports to a Captain who commands their contingent.
