Scenes of the Netherlands, 20 years after completion of the 18-mile dam (the so-called "afsluitdijk") across the Zuider Zee
Netherlands Date:1952 Duration:2 min 5 sec Sound:NO SOUND
Map shows Zuider Zee, and towns of Marken and Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Animated map shows where the 18-mile dam, the so-called "afsluitdijk", across Zuider Zee was completed in 1932. Areas that are being reclaimed in the resulting body of water (Ijsselmeer) are shown. Colorful scenes of docked fishing boats. Man with a box full of eels, which are the only fish still obtainable since the waters in Ijsselmeer are too shallow to support other fish. To promote tourism, Dutch people are seen wearing traditional costumes. Children in the native costume.
