Launch of a German A-5 rocket (precursor to A-4 or V-2 rocket), from a test site in Greifswalder Oie, an island in Germany. Missile takes off emitting smoke and fire. Soon after liftoff the rocket propulsion system fails, and a thick cloud of liquid oxygen trails the vehicle. The recovery parachute deploys, and the rocket descend rapidly to earth trailing liquid oxygen from a ruptured propellant tank. (World War II period).
