He heads for the Republican nomination on the first ballot. Senator Barry addresses the Platform committee and calls for a tougher stand with the Red Block. Forces of Governor William Scranton fight a rear-guard action to the end. On the eve of the convention, Civil Rights demonstrators mass in protest against Goldwater and are seen in a march of 40,000 people on the streets of San Francisco. The marchers at the demonstration hear from Henry Cabot Lodge and other leaders. President Dwight D. Eisenhower arrives for the Convention. Governor Mark O Hatfield of Oregon gives a speech.
