At start, film shows Dr. Leo Szilard (inventor of the cyclotron) standing in front of a cyclotron in the Pepin Physics Laboratory of Columbia University. He is studying some documented research results. Dr. George Pegram, Chairman of Columbia's Physics Department, enters and converses with Szilard. They review the research data together. Pegram leaves, and Szilard continues to review data. He holds a stop watch and enters some numbers in his journal. Dr. Pegram returns and they again look at the data.
