A crowd of spectators is gathered for the event. Sponsor,Lulie Swanson, wife of Secretary of the Navy Claude A. Swanson, holds bottle of champagne for the christening. She stands on a platform with several other persons, including two Naval officers. Mrs. Swanson swings the bottle, suspended on a line decorated with American flags.
