Removing wounded and dead U.S. sailors from the gun turret of the USS Savannah in Salerno, Italy. Several ships underway at a sea. The USS Savannah with hose laid out around the deck. Men fight fire on the turret which was hit by a German bomb. A sailor removes a blanket from the body of a dead sailor lying on the deck. Men work with dead and wounded on the deck. A wounded sailor on a stretcher is lifted over the side of the ship and is lowered on an LCM (Landing Craft Mechanized). Dead bodies on deck, some covered and some uncovered.
