Aerial view of smoke rising from areas bombed by a U.S. Air Force A-1E aircraft during Vietnam War in Vietnam.
Vietnam Date:1965, March 7 Duration:1 min 23 sec Sound:NO SOUND
View from forward camera in a USAF A-1E aircraft on a mission in Vietnam. The aircraft descends toward an area where smoke is rising. As it reaches the area, a fiery explosion occurs and thick black smoke rises rapidly forcing the pilot to climb to avoid it. But he goes IFR as it engulfs the aircraft. Scene shifts to camera aircraft following another A-1E as it begins a strafing run on a target near a river. Another scene shows the camera aircraft descending over a group of buildings and a bridge over a river, and then pulling up into a climb. (Note: The A1E aircraft on this mission are believed to be from the 1st Air Commando Squadron, operating out of Bien Hoa Air Base.)
