Training of U.S. midshipmen aboard aircraft carrier USS America underway at sea in Istanbul, Turkey. Several aircraft parked at the flight deck. Midshipman J. F. Higgins and Lieutenant junior grade C. C. Parish inspect a U.S. Navy F-4B Phantom aircraft. The pilot moves around the nose to the starboard side of the aircraft. He explains something to the midshipman during a preflight check of the aircraft. The pilot and the midshipman move down the starboard side. Men explain about the tail portion of the aircraft to the midshipman. The midshipman stands behind the tail pipe of the aircraft. He climbs up the side of the aircraft and into the cockpit. The pilot explains about the cockpit area to the midshipman. The midshipman then climbs into the cockpit. The pilot stands along side the cockpit as he watches the midshipman securing himself into a seat. The pilot gives the midshipman check out of the cockpit area. He assists the midshipman as he secures himself into a seat in the cockpit. The pilot in the flight gear climbs up into the cockpit. He hooks up an intercom for the midshipman. The midshipman dons his helmet. The pilot explains to the midshipman.
