Italian Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 Sparviero torpedo bombers in flight over Sicily, Italy during World War 2. An Italian officer briefs crew members of torpedo and fighter aircraft before they leave for a mission in the Mediterranean. The flight crew dons equipment and boards an aircraft. Two pet dogs, a Boxer and an Alsatian, follow crew to bottom hatch of an airplane. The Boxer jumps in easily, but the Alsatian has difficulty. Pilots in the cockpits of aircraft flying at low altitude over the Mediterranean Sea. An Allied convoy is spotted underway. A battle ensues, with Italian bombers and torpedo planes attacking the ships, while the latter mount a strong defense with antiaircraft fire. Flak bursts leave black smoke in the sky. Italian planes releasing torpedoes. Smoke rising from two ships hit during the engagement.
