The USS Argonaut (SS-166) returning to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, after the famous Makin Raid in World War 2. Aboard are marines from the Second Raider Battalion (Carlson's Raiders). A military honor guard, on the pier, presents arms in salute. View of the Argonaut being pulled in by lines to the pier. Sailors and Marine Raiders stand on the deck. U.S. Navy ensign flies at the bow. Sailors watch from the deck of the USS Nautilus (SS-168) in the background. It has also just returned from the Makin Raid and is already tied up, on the opposite side of the dock. Sailors on the Argonaut, and on the pier, secure the lines and set up a gangway to the boat. A Naval officer comes aboard. Next, Admiral Chester Nimitz, and staff officers, are seen walking away from the Argonaut, after having formally greeted members of the crew and the Marine Raiders. Many sailors mingle on the pier. Marines of the 2nd Raider Battalion begin to walk away from the Argonaut, past the honor guard. View from a height, of honor guard in large formation, saluting. A truck drives onto the pier, as Pearl Harbor Navy personnel gather around the returning Marine Raiders as they leave the boat and pier.
