African American cotton pickers rush to gather the present crop before the Southern legislators accept the proposal for a cotton ban. The laborers use both antiquated and modern methods. The pickers gather the picked cotton on the roadside. The farmers supervise as the gathered cotton is wrapped up in bundles and weighed. The cotton is then loaded into trucks for shipment. A young African American boy sits atop a cotton heap and eats a very large slice of watermelon fruit.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt visits the Works Projects Administration Pine Valley Farm Colony in Georgia during the Great Depression

Opening newsreel slate reads: "Roosevelt inspects GA. Farm Colony." President Franklin D. Roosevelt is seen driving his 1931 Plymouth Phaeton car with hand controls, along a rural road on the way to visit the Pine Valley Farm Colony established by the Works Projects Administration of Georgia. In change of scene, camera shows a poultry farm with the farmer walking through broadcasting grain to feed the chickens. Another scene shows three farmers walking through and examining their crop of cabbages. Next, cattle are seen in a field. Scene changes again to focus on the President's car driving onto the the Pine Valley farms. A large number of the community are crowded around to greet him. Closeups of serious-looking school children watching the President. Closeups of unsmiling men in the group. U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) visits Pine Mountain Valley Grammar School, Georgia

President Franklin D. Roosevelt, with his daughter, Anna, seated beside him, drives his personal hand-controlled 1931 Plymouth PA Phaeton open car into the courtyard of the Pine Mountain Valley elementary school, built as part of a Works Progress Administration (WPA) federally funded project during the Great Depression. Teachers and children and their families are gathered to greet him. Several Secret Service agents walk behind the car. Many American flags are displayed and a chorus of children sings the tune, "Happy Days are here again." The President remains seated in his car as a group of women display a homemade quilt that they present as a gift. President Roosevelt speaks to the children (and other gathered) remarking that things looked improved at the school, since his visit the year before, and noting that the Government's efforts were helpful. President Roosevelt makes a few more comments, and then turns to the woman standing next to the car (possibly the School Principal) and asks: "Will you get in with me?" She gets in the car, and they sit a moment as he talks with a man nearby. A secret service agent places the gift quilt in the empty back seat of the car. The children serenade the President again. FDR drives away through the crowd, followed by Secret Agents on foot and in an automobile.
