Sponsor of the ship, Ilo Browne Wallace, wife of Vice President Henry A. Wallace, Christens the Iowa by breaking a bottle of champagne over her bow, and the ship moves down the ways toward the East River. The Williamsburg Bridge is seen dimly in the background, as the Iowa plunges into the water. Camera focuses, next, on the USS New Jersey (BB-62) ready for launching at the Philadelphia Navy Yard on December 7, 1942. Men knock supports from below the New Jersey, in preparation for her launching. Next, she is seen moving down the ways. Closeups of some shipyard workers smiling as the New Jersey is launched. People gathered at shipyards of New York Shipbuilding Corporation for the launch of the USS Belleau Wood (CVL-24). Sponsor Mrs. Thomas Holcomb seen with U.S. Marine Corps General Thomas Holcomb. Mrs. Holcomb christens the ship as it launches. Scene shifts to Fore River Shipyard in Massachusetts and launching of the USS Bunker Hill (CV-17). The aircraft carrier slides down skids into the water. Scene shifts to Philadelphia Naval Shipyard on the same day, December 7, 1942, as the launching ceremony for the Battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62). Carolyn Edison, wife of New Jersey Governor Charles Edison is seen christening the ship and it then slides into the water. Two boats underway in the background assist with positioning the Battleship.

Views of oil-stained motor lifeboat and cabin picket boat used by U.S. Coast Guard in rescuing survivors from the tanker, R.P. Resor, after it was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-578, on the night of 28 February, 1942, in World War 2. The Resor burned for hours afterwards with fire spread by leaking cargo oil. The only survivors, Seaman John Forsdal, and Coxwain Daniel Hey, are seen in the Coast Guard Station dining room following their rescue.

Demonstration of the American Air Force against naval vessels of battleship class operate from temporary bases. American airmen prepare 1100 pound bombs. Men assemble tail section of a missile. Launching and christening of USS Santa Fe (CL-60) Cleveland Class light crusier from the Camden, New Jersey yards of New York Shipbuilding, during World War 2. Men, women and U.S. Navy officers and sailors at the harbor during the ceremony, including Santa Fe Mayor Manuel Lujan, and 14 year old Caroline Trevelyan Chavez who receives coaching on how to christen the ship and then smashes a bottle of Santa Fe River water on the bow as the crowd claps and the ship slides down the ways. Ambient sound heard briefly at the christening and afterwards with crowd cheering at different times in the clip. The cruiser slides down the ways enters into the Delaware River.
