On the upper side, workers use timber battering rams to loosen supports, while below, others use ropes to lower them. The platform at the ship's bow is covered in patriotic bunting. The ship begins to move down the ways, stern first, into the water. As she floats away, tugboats standby to assist.

Robinson, who also christened the 4th USS Lexington, does the honors for the newest one, and the aircraft carrier glides down the ways into Boston Harbor.
