A public television program by the U.S. Army entitled 'The Big Picture.' U.S. troops are seen hunkered down and looking through binoculars in a defensive position in Korea, during the Korean War. U.S. Army amphibious assault training on a beach in Puerto Rico. Army Master Sergeant Stuart Queen, narrator, speaks about America's defense against threat of atomic attack in these times of lukewarm peace. View of mountainous region in Alaska. A cluster of Cup'it Eskimo dwellings is seen on Nunivak Island, in the Bering Sea. Several of the local inhabitants are fishing through holes cut in the ice. Vapor trails are seen from Soviet aircraft flying at high altitude. A sign on a tarpaulin displaying logo of the Army Signal Corps, reads,"Alaska Communication System, Long Distance Commercial Telephone-Telegraph." A tracked vehicle carries a soldier to a facility posting a sign reading, "Alaska Communications System Receiver Station." Several tall antennas loom above the site. The soldier, dressed in arctic gear, steps from the tracked vehicle and walks past several snow shoes, standing upright in the snow, to enter a white wooden building. Inside, a man in civilian clothes works at a battery of telecomunications equipment. He transmits a message about the aircraft sighting, to the Alaska Communication System facility in Fairbanks Alaska (briefly shown) by means of a telegraph key. From there it is relayed to a Signal Corps facility, shown, in Washington, DC. A soldier is seen Inside that facility, in a room filled with computers and telecommunications equipment. A Sergeant handles paper tape messages being sent and received by teletype. Another soldier plugs connections into a communications switchboard. Next, the camera pans over the entrance to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, in the Pentagon. More views of soldiers attending banks of teletype machines. Animated map displays paths of orders being transmitted to U.S. Air Defense Centers in San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, New York, and Atlanta. View from control room, of several U.S. Air Force F-94 Fighter Interceptor aircraft on an airfield ramp. A controller activates a Klaxon horn and pilots on alert, in the Fighter Interceptor Squadron ready room, jump up and scramble to their aircraft. A pair of F-94s taking off. One is number 51-5385. A Ford Model A Tudor car circa 1928-1929 drives along a country road, past a mail box and turns, driving past a fenced farm. Cluster of farm buildings in background. Next, the car drives up to a farm building and the driver (a farmer) gets out carrying a bundle, that he takes into the house. A roadster convertible car, with its rumble seat removed and a large trunk installed in its place, stops in front of a house. A boy and a girl, on bicycles, ride past on the sidewalk, accompanied by a large black dog.The driver, a vacuum cleaner salesman, removes a demonstration vacuum from the car trunk and goes to the front door, where he shows the vacuum to a lady who answers the door. Change of scene to a 1929 Ford Town Sedan car arriving at the picnic area of a park. A little white dog jumps out as the door is opened, followed by a man and woman carrying things for a picnic. The woman, with others, prepares the picnic table, while a man tends a fireplace in the background. Young folks sit on rocks by a stream in the park. Scene shifts to a roadside sign reading,"Hunter's Old Spring Tourist Camp, Rooms-Cabins, Shower baths, Heated, Drive in, All Modern." View of the cabins in a grove of trees that have their trunks white-washed from the ground level to about 8 feet. Next, two women and two children leave a house and get into a Buick phaeton automobile, and drive away. Weekend sightseers in automobiles, fill the road leading to some attraction.

The U.S. Army Air Service Fokker C-2A named "Question Mark" being refueled in midair from a Douglas C-1, in 1929.
Mid air refueling experiments in January, 1929. A U.S. Army Air Service Douglas C-1 tanker plane, with hose trailing below it, flies above a modified Atlantic-Fokker C-2A named "Question Mark." The hose is let down to the Question Mark, where a crew member seizes it and makes a connection for fuel transfer. After transfer of fuel is complete, the crew member throws the fuel line off and it is retrieved by the tanker plane. The Question Mark lands at Metropolitan Airport, Van Nuys, California on January 7, 1929, and taxiis in to park. The crew members, including Major Carl A. Spaatz, Captain Ira C. Eaker, Lieutenant Harry A. Halverson, Lieutenant Elwood R.(Pete) Quesada, and Staff Sergeant Roy W. Hooe, all exit the airplane and gather under the wing with well wishers. The five crew members pose for photographs beside their airplane, the "Question Mark." Ground crew tows the aircraft with a tractor.
