An electric current flows from the anode, through the solution, to the cathode on which pure copper is deposited. After removing the cathodes from remnants of anodes a sludge, into which the gold, silver and platinum has fallen, flushed out of the tank. Sludge melted by a worker into a bullion bar. The copper cathodes melted.
