Use of radioisotopes in engine and tire manufacturing in United States

A 1957 Ford Fairlane convertible with top down, pulls into a "Mobil gas" station, and an attendant comes out to serve the driver. He opens the hood revealing the engine which is dominated by a large air filter on its top. Next, the scene shifts to a V8 engine mounted on a test stand in an automotive laboratory . The engine parts have been irradiated so that the slightest wear will be detected in engine oil. Oil drained from engine is collected and passed to atomic scintillation counter. A graph showing wearing metals of the engine. Scene shifts back to the convertible in the gas station, where the little girl leans over to watch the service station attendant check the pressure on one of the white wall tires. This introduces the discussion and views of radioactive applications in tire manufacture. Nylon fabric woven into tires at a factory is shown being precisely measured using atomic radiation technology. Thickness of nylon tire fabric is graphed continuously as it passes measurement station in automated production process. And rubber being applied is constantly monitored. If out of specification, lights alert the operator to intervene and reset controls. Final scene shows the woman and girl, from the opening scene. driving their Ford Fairlane convertible in a residential town or suburban neighborhood.

Much later, as President of the NAACP chapter on campus of Michigan State University, he is seen handing out pamphlets to other students. Views of students congregating on the grounds of the university. One girl holds a poster reading "Give, NAACP Fund Drive." Professor David Gottlieb introduces Ernest Green who steps to a classroom podium to speak to Michigan State students in a lecture room. Green carrying books is seen entering and sitting down in the Michigan State library. In another scene, he enters sociological data into Hollerith punch cards for processing by computer. He walks in the university computer room where tape decks are seen spinning and computer operators are at work. One of the tapes mounted on a drive is labeled: "Ernest Green, Aspirations." Results from his work are seen coming out of a line printer. Green sits in a library and opens the 1960 yearbook of Central High School containing his and Carlotta Walls 'entries. View of Carlotta, in dorm at Denver University, Colorado, where she is a student. Gloria Ray is seen at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where she is a senior majoring in chemistry. Terrence Roberts is seen at the City College of Los Angeles, where he is studying Business Administration. Melba Pattillo, who left college to marry, is seen in two views.Scene shifts back to Central High and Jefferson Thomas, looking at the athletic trophies on display. He (who is narrating this film) states that he will take an exam in Spring to become a Certified Public Accountant. He walks down steps of Central High and camera pans over neighborhood to the State Capitol dome in distance.

Based on the uniforms, the size of the crowd, and the action seen in the clip, this is very likely the second game of a doubleheader played by the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox May 30, 1916, on the holiday then known as Decoration Day (now Memorial Day). Clip opens with shots of one White Sox player, two Tigers players hitting. Camera pans across packed stands. Tigers outfielder and Hall of Famer Ty Cobb (with split grip on bat) reaches out to get a hit. White Sox catcher Ray Schalk removes mask, gets ready for throw. Detroit player tries to score; Schalk receives the ball, applies the tag. Umpire's call is difficult to discern. Action shifts to an overhead view. Three White Sox players score on a hit, the last one sliding past an attempted tag by Detroit catcher Oscar Stanage. Detroit pitcher Harry Coveleski gets final out of the inning. Detroit player reaches first base on infield error. The next batter pokes a ball over first baseman for a single. Other Tigers players hit. The Tigers would win this game 9-8.

Medwick is removed from the game by Commissioner Landis. St. Louis Cardinals with its infamous "Gashouse Gang" win the game and the series.
