Juniata Locomotive Shop workers build locomotives and trains, and send a ready locomotive to test plant in Altoona Pennsylvania

Building of the railroads in the United States. Scenes from the Juniata Locomotive Shops in Altoona, Pennsylvania, serving the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR). Crane in factory moves a casting and places it in position. Driving wheels are balanced,checked and tested. Workers manufacture freight and passengers cars. Workers do welding work. They melt iron for casting. They prepare molds and undergo heating and cooling work. Grinders and automatic lathes at work. A worker operates automatic machinery which compresses molten metal for railroad parts, including a large compressor forming the driving rod for a locomotive. Finally the locomotive is painted. A completed T1 locomotive, designed by Raymond Loewy, is sent to the locomotive test plant where it undergoes a test run on the dyno. Experts watch movement of the train. Instruments record the vital data for the engineers.
