King, an ace of the 355th Fighter Squadron, "The Pugnacious Pups," was officially credited with 5 1/2 confirmed aerial victories, and was awarded the Silver Star. He was from Atlanta, GA.) U.S. Army Air Forces personnel of the 354th Fighter Group, the Pioneer Mustang Fighter Group, with several horses on a field in France during World War 2. A pilot, in uniform,tries unsuccessfully to mount a small horse, bareback. Later, after lassoing a large horse,with help from others, he approaches and slowly gains its confidence enough to slip a training bridle on and mount it. He then expertly rides the horse bareback, even managing to ride at a canter. (The field is near the town of Criqueville, France, close to the Normandy Beachhead.)

Decoration ceremony conducted by Lieutenant General Brereton, Commander of U.S. Army Air Forces 9th Air Force, at advance airfield, Criqueville (A-2) France, during World War 2. Nine pilots of the 354th Fighter Group are lined up at attention in a field. A photographer clicks pictures. Two officers stand beside a table on which medals are kept. Captain Beerbower marches towards Lt Gen Brereton. The Lt Gen decorates him. Lt Gen Brereton decorates a major, a captain and a lieutenant, shaking hands with them. The company stands at attention. The honored men stand back in a line. General Brereton is seen, later, conversing with Captain Beerbower (wearing Silver Star). Among those decorated in this ceremony were: Capt. Don M. Beerbower (Silver Star); Capt. Wallace N. Emmer, Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and Lieutenant Carl Bickel (DFC).
Battle of Los Negros in Admiralty Islands during World War II
On orders from General MacArthur, the 2nd Squadron (dismounted), 5th U.S. Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division of the United States Army on a Reconnaissance in Force mission at Los Negros,Admiralty Islands. Prior to their landing, two Spitfire aircraft of No. 73 Wing, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) are seen attacking Japanese positions in the jungles near the beach. U.S. Navy warships bombard the area and U.S. B-25 bombers from the 345th Bomb Group , 5th Air Force, drop bombs along the beach. After landing, the Reconnaissance Squadron, reinforced with other U.S. 1st Cavalry Division troops, advances into dense jungles. Troops spray the area with machine gun fire. A Squad seen firing a mortar. U.S. troops firing a field gun with "Bataan" written in chalk, on the barrel. B-25 bombers fly very low over edge of Momote airfield and drop bombs. 1st Cavalry troops battle their way against hidden Japanese forces and capture the Momote airfield. General MacArthur comes ashore and congratulates the troops. A wounded soldier carried on a stretcher. U.S. medics tend to wounded soldiers. Wounded are given plasma. Dead Japanese soldiers on ground.
