U.S. Nuclear test "MET", during Operation Teapot, at Frenchman Flats in Nye County Nevada

Ground-level view of April 15, 1955 atomic test at Frenchman Flats, Nevada Test Site in Nye County Nevada. Test code-named "MET" -- Military Effects Test. In this footage, the 400 foot shot-tower on which the 22 kiloton nuclear device is set can be seen in the foreground prior to detonation. Rocket trails or "streamers" become visible to the right of the shot tower before the explosion. After the brilliant flash, which completely vaporizes the shot tower, an immense fireball becomes visible, which churns skyward and begins to cool and blacken. The fireball quickly begins to develop into a mushroom cloud.

United States nuclear testing during Operation Plumbbob: Shot Owens

"Owens," the tenth shot of Operation Plumbbob, is fired at an altitude of 500 feet from a plastic balloon at 6:30 am civilian time on July 25, 1957. The nuclear test yields 9.7 kilotons (equal to 9,700 tons of TNT). A brilliant flash gives way to an orange fireball which quickly begins to cool and churn skyward. Mushroom cloud forms fast. Cameraman slate at beginning of clip identifies the shot as Owens.

Eddie Mathews homer lifts Milwaukee Braves over New York Yankees, game 4 of the 1957 Baseball World Series

Newsreel clip on game four of baseball's 1957 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Milwaukee Braves at County Stadium in Milwaukee. Interesting scenes from football games of 1957. Heisman trophy awarded to John David Crow, of Texas A&M

Stands are crowded with spectators at University of Oklahoma's Owen Field, in Norman, Oklahoma, for a game between the Oklahoma "Sooners" and "the fighting Irish" of Notre Dame, on November 16, 1957. Although Oklahoma came into the game with a 47 game winning streak,they lose this game to Notre Dame, 7 to zero. In the telling play, Quarterback Bob Williams (number 9) throws to back, Dick Lynch (number 25) , who runs around the right end, untouched, for the only touchdown in this upset game. (Stickles, of Notre Dame kicked the extra point to make it a 7-0 ballgame.) Scene shifts to presentation of the Heisman trophy to halfback, John David Crow, of Texas A&M on December 11, 1957. Sequence shifts again, to football fans watching Canada's Grey Cup Classic,on November 30th, 1957. They see a long Winnipeg pass intercepted by Hamilton player, Ray Bawel, who runs it back for a sure touchdown, when he suddenly falls, having been tripped by Winnipeg fan, David Humphrey, who was standing on the sideline. Bawel gets up angrily, and goes back toward Humphrey, but is restrained by officials. Another unusual 1957 game is shown in which the players contend with rain and mud that makes play practically impossible.

United States Senator Nye in Washington DC. U.S. Senator Nye denounces war. As the Chairman of the Munitions Investigating Committee he declares commercial interests want another large European war to serve their greedy interests . He states his belief that adequate neutrality legislation will keep the country at peace. The Neutrality Act of 1935 was signed on August 31, 1935.
