He heads for the Republican nomination on the first ballot. Senator Barry addresses the Platform committee and calls for a tougher stand with the Red Block. Forces of Governor William Scranton fight a rear-guard action to the end. On the eve of the convention, Civil Rights demonstrators mass in protest against Goldwater and are seen in a march of 40,000 people on the streets of San Francisco, toward City Hall. The marchers at the demonstration hear from Henry Cabot Lodge and other leaders. President Dwight D. Eisenhower arrives for the Convention. Republican Governor Mark O Hatfield of Oregon gives a preview of his keynote speech, which describes the party as one of faith in various American ideals.

Children gather to compete at the National Marbles Tournament in Wildwood to find out who is the mightiest mibster, or marble player. Several hexagonal shaped mats are laid on floor. Two players face-off each other per mat. Spectators gather in number to cheer up for their favorites. Fellow players watch as the final round goes on. Gerald Robinson, a 14 year old boy from Scranton, emerges as the proud winner. Gerald Robinson is given the MIBS title crown by an official present.
