Heavy explosions and fires on the base. Fires started from secondary blasts by bombs and fuel. Aircraft destroyed included F-4 Phantom II's & C-130's. The U.S Marine Corps Fighter Squadron VMF (AW) 232, also based here, lost some of its F-8E Crusader aircraft in this attack. (Vietnam War period).

President Lyndon B. Johnson arrives in a motorcade at Anderson Air Force Base, Guam, on March 20, 1967, during the Vietnam War. As a rain shower begins, a man, holding an umbrella, opens the door of the President's car, and Major General William Joseph Crumm, Commander of the 3rd Air Division, helps him step out. Closeup of some of the military families gathered to greet the President. Children hold small American flags. Next, the President is seen presenting Air Medals to 12 crew members of Strategic Air Command (SAC) B-52 bombers and KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft of the 3rd Air Division in the Western Pacific. View of friends and families and other spectators watching the proceedings. General Crumm is seen officially greeting President Johnson, and then presenting him with a plaque identifying him as a member of the "Top Three Club." The President makes a few remarks praising the Air medal recipients for their sacrifices and deeds in the air over Vietnam.

The name "Wheatley" is stenciled below the cockpit. The pilot raises two fingers to indicate start engine. Ground crewman wearing noise suppressor headset acknowledges with two fingers.Ground crewman collects gear pins. Another ground crewman pulls chocks, hangs them on a rocket tube, and signals for the pilot to taxi. He pulls the chocks off the rocket tube as the aircraft taxis past, with its wings folded. The pilot, Major Cronkrite, unfolds wings and taxis to join the other F-8E, piloted by Wheatley, on the active runway. (Note: On June 20, 1967 Major Charles Ligon Cronkrite experienced mechanical problems during a mission and ejected over water. He did not survive.) (Vietnam War period).
