Allied forces begin their Somme offensive in Dompierre. Allies moving guns and supplies forward in France for the Battle of the Somme, during World War 1. A French 305mm railway gun moving on a railroad, with French soldiers riding on it and several box cars of munitions behind it. German troops, devoid of weapons and battle gear, some with their hands up, scurrying through scarred landscape, as they surrender. Artillerymen lower an entrenched French 240mm artillery gun to near zero elevation and fire it. French artillerymen work on a rail-mounted 520mm howitzer.
