Soviet Home Guard Cossack Cavalry are seen mounted up to train during World War 2. They ride past a fence where several rural people wave to them, including one old woman. A Cossack contingent in Papaha (black Cossack hats) is put through their paces by their commander. He directs one of his troop to charge on horseback, brandishing his sword. The Cossack charges along a path lined with a series wooden stakes. He swings his saber to cut the successive stakes while galloping through the course. Closeup of one typically cut clean through. In final scenes, the entire Cossack troop charges in formation
